Recommend a streaming media player for 30+Mbps

Hello. I currently have a 3rd gen. AppleTV to stream from my Plex Media Server PC. This player can only handle AVC 4.0 reliably but most blu-rays are encoded with AVC 4.1. So I need to reencode everything, basically turning a 35GB mkv into a 3.5GB file. Image quality is still very good, but not like the original. Since hard disk space is not an issue I’d rather keep the original 30+GB files and play them directly.

So I’m on the market for a new streaming player. I don’t really need 4K but I want something fast that can reliably play the original files (eg. 35GB mkv file encoded in AVC 4.1). I was looking at NVIDIA Shield and Roku 4, but from the forums here it seems most users are having various playback issues with Plex (and I’d rather use Plex than any other server). Perhaps the 4th gen. AppleTV then? Any other recommendations? Thanks!

The Shield TV works great for me, no issues other than the lack of TrueHD support. If you want cheap, get a Raspberry PI2 or PI3 and use Rasplex. I have a few RPI2 and RPI3s in my house, and they do a great job of playing my BD rips.
