Nighthawk AC1900 with DD-WRT has been perfect for me.
It’s funny… Steve Gibson’s show title Security Now is a nod to Serenity Now which George Constanza’s father screams when he needs silence.
Ubiquiti APs are amongst the best performing and easy to manage, team with router of yur choice. I like sonicWALLs right now, but you need to be in IT to configure and are not for the beginner.
As soon as wigig rolls out next year I cant wait to see what ubiquiti comes up with to replace my waps.
My current network has Dell an ubiquiti managed switches, teamed with my SonicWALL tz215 and my 3 unifi-ap’s gen2 and my plex performance is near perfect while regularly serving 8-10 transcodes at 1080p as well as Direct Playing to all the devices in the house.
With the upcoming 2017 UN convention in Geneva’s discussion on a possible ban of lethal, autonomous computer/AI systems, I am not sure it would be wise to invest your money in that technology as it may become illegal to own in the near future.
However should you still wish to go that route, I would recommend the ‘D-Link AC3200 Ultra Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (DIR-890L/R)’ for a good video streaming router with multiple TV’s (I have 6+ Roku w/Plex and 4 Winders Tablets) within the house.

I should avoid consumer routers. I suggest pfSense and a consumer router used in AP mode only.
First rule of streaming: never stream over wifi. Wire everything up as much as you can. Believe me, you’ll be glad you did. But anyways, I use an ASUS RT-AC68U and it’s killer.
