Recommended device for 3 simultaneous 4K transcodes (Plex Pass)

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a compact and efficient Plex Media Server device that can handle 3 simultaneous 4K transcodes smoothly. I have a Plex Pass, so I want to make full use of hardware transcoding (Intel QuickSync, NVIDIA NVENC, or any other optimized solution).

I’m considering:

  • A mini PC with an Intel 12th/13th/14th-gen CPU (QuickSync support)
  • A small form factor device with a discrete GPU (RTX 3060 or higher)
  • An NVIDIA Shield TV Pro (not sure if it’s powerful enough for this workload)

Which option would be the best for reliable 4K HDR transcoding with minimal power consumption? Are there any recommended mini PC builds with a powerful iGPU or a small but efficient dedicated GPU?

Thanks for your suggestions!

I have, for development purposes, a
Beelink Mini PC, Mini S12 Pro Intel 12th N100(Up to 3.4GHz)

It does an excellent job.

If you consider the SFF solutions, avoid the N150 CPU for the time being.
The transcoder is not fully supporting it yet.
