I turned on “transcode” in the “convert video while recording” box. I’m recording 2 OTA channels that are either 720 or 1080. My CPU is pegged at 100%. Is this normal. Generally transcoding a video only takes a little bit of CPU.
I also have the remove channels feature turned on.
Just trying to figure out if this is normal. If I can’t record a few channels and do other stuff with my Synology NAS at the same time, I’m not going to be happy. I got the NAS with the expectation this is a step up and will let me do multiple things at once.
I already did that fix. I’m thinking maybe since I set the quality to “automatic” it is just using more CPU. I may turn off “transcoding while recording” if it is having troubles.
Dvr transcoding doesn’t use hw, at least in my experience on my server.
Only when transcoding an already completed recording.
Anyone know if the limitation is only on the Synology platform? or does the same behaviour exist on other platforms windows etc? I have the ds920+ and same behaviour… Was hoping to be able use the DVR for two HD recordings from the HDHOMERUN along with the normal file operations. VMM, etc. at the same time. If I don’t enable transcode while recording everything seems fine… was hoping DVR could use this capability as well with transcoding so save some space.
