Hi there,
I’ve just started using the Live TV functionality with a WinTV-quadHD. At first I was running it without the (experimental) transcode while recording but I found that some clients would not play the recorded video. I have since turned it on and and very happy with the results.
However, I have noticed that the transcode process will use around 50% of each CPU core in the machine while recording. Therefore I assume it will be OK with two simultaneous recordings. I am however concerned what will happen if it tries to record 3 or 4 recordings at a time?
The ideal scenario would be that Plex would realise that it cannot do it in real-time and so would instead do the conversion when there are sufficient system resources available. Can anyone confirm if it does anything like this?
I guess my alternative would be to run some sort of batch transcode at night for all recordings that have been done that day. This however would not be ideal as I may want to watch something that has not been converted yet on the day that it aired.
The other option is that the quad tuner actually shows up as 2 dual tuners. I could set one to transcode and the other not to. I would then want to get it to prioritise the one that does transcode if that is possible (I can’t see the option). That will end up being messy though as I will end up with some shows that are not converted unless I again set up some sort of batch processing to catch those shows.
Can anyone shed some light on what my options are please?
Thanks,
Kieran
