Redundant Library Locations - Any Issues?

I store my Plex media libraries on network shares, and they are configured in PMS using UNC pathnames (Windows), e.g.: \\servername\sharename.

There are times when I have to pull my primary NAS offline for maintenance or to upgrade storage. Each time, I have performed the process to “move” my libraries temporarily to my backup NAS:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/201154537-move-media-content-to-a-new-location/

Each time this forces a full library rescan and metadata sync, which can take a long time with some libraries. Then when I am done with server maintenance, I have to do all this over again in reverse.

Is there any reason that Plex libraries could not be permanently configured to point to two identical media locations? So that (in my case) if one file server is offline, Plex will automatically find content from the other?

My backup NAS is kept in sync with my primary NAS nightly, so identical media will exist in both locations most of the time.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Maybe you could rename the secondary file server during the maintenance?
That way Plex doesn’t notice any change at all and therefore will continue to run as if nothing has changed.

Thanks, that’s not a bad idea. My primary server is a domain controller and can’t be renamed, so I hadn’t really considered this. But this limitation does not apply to my backup machine. So perhaps it’s an option.

MergerFS would make this pretty simple.

Stablebit Drivepool is likely a good Windows alternative.
