Keep the scanner at “Plex TV Series”, but select “Plex Personal Media” as agent, is my recommendation.
Thank you for that @OttoKerner but unfortunately that results in the metadata getting wiped after the scan as well.
What’s confusing to me about this is that I thought metadata was pinned to the file path/name? It’s as if there is something about the file that is new altogether that is causing the refresh/cleanse.

That’s certainly one solution to the problem, but we have been scanning for years without issue. Was there a recent change to Plex that causes this sort of behavior when scanning?
I was hoping the “don’t scan” approach would work, but unfortunately, it doesn’t in this case. As I mentioned, the reason I am doing this is that I post-process the recording to remove commericals (and half-time) that are missed from the original pass. When I do this (and not scan), Plex still thinks the show’s time is the original.
For instance, the game yesterday was marked at 3 hours and 14 minutes. After the 2nd pass, the file’s time is now 2 hours, 38 minutes. However, Plex still thinks the show’s length is 3 hours and 14 minutes. Do you have any recommendations on how to update with the new time without performing another scan?
Hi @OttoKerner one last question here… I manually added a file to the series folder, but it does not appear in the library. How do I refresh Plex so that this manually added file is displayed? Thank you for any further assistance you can provide.
You can’t.
The DVR library should only be filled by Plex’s own Live TV DVR.
If you want to combine DVR recordings with files from other sources, I’m afraid you need to invest more work and make the DVR’d files compatible with the regular metadata sources of Plex, then put them into a regular Series-type of library.
