Just recently my files in my Plex server have lost all of their metadata and all files needed to re-sync. Does anybody know what might have caused this so I can avoid it happening again? I’ve spent hours and hours updating the metadata and fixing the inappropriately merged files.
This could happen if you have automatic/scheduled library scans enabled, set your server to automatically empty its trash after every scan… and your media storage occasionally dropping out (or not spinning up fast enough).
In such a situation it’s good practice to disable Settings > [Server Name] > Library > Empty trash automatically after every scan.
Give your external storage devices fixed drive letters, so that they don’t change when you temporarily add or swap drives.
