I am a 10+ year PLEX user, have 4,000+ movies, and have recently deleted 400 duplicates. Of the duplicates deleted/kept, I kept the best quality and deleted the lesser quality using the DOS delete command (C:>del FullFileDirPathOrFileNm). My thinking was that PLEX would be able to figure out deleted/kept movies when re-scanning the library. Instead, PLEX lost all metadata (title, description, rating, add date…) for the kept movies. But even worse, PLEX refuses to update metadata for these movies even when rescanning the library or fixing a match. Now I am in a quandary, I have rescanned the library without success; changed the movie scanner to Plex Legacy, and back again, also without success; tried Fix Match, again without success. Metadata is still missing for the kept movies. How do I fix/restore metadata for the kept movies?

When you switch agents like that back and forth it can cause damage and odd behavior in the way your library functions
I would update back to the new Plex scanner agent and rescan/refresh metadata
Any files that are still a problem you may have to Plex Dance ← Click
If you still notice problems with certain files first look at naming. With the new scanner this is most likely your problem but if something is still not matching put that file in a newly created library as a test to see if it works there
Thank you so much for responding to my question. I was able to resolve the issue by uninstalling, rebooting, and then reinstalling Plex. Once I did that the libraries updated perfectly… I also tried to recreate the issue by duplicating another movie, deleting it through DOS, and then rescanning the libraries but PLEX figured it out perfectly. Now I’m not sure if my issue was based on deleting files or if something in PLEX got corrupt and it just needed to be reinstalled. JaysPlex7, I’ll keep in mind not to switch back and forth between agents. Thanks again!
