The Episode X is the default that the Agent falls back to when there is no metadata available.
Just looking into this a bit more It is a bit of a problem.
Multi Episode releases have episodes listed as different episodes. For example, High School DxD OVA has two episodes. But the High School DxD New OVA only has one episode which does not have a separate episode tab.
Which means that for Single episode releases there will not be a Metadata for the episode itself but rather added to the library item itself. The Metadata needs to be available for the episode individually so that the Agent can pull it and add the titles of the episodes from MyAnimeList and add it to the episode you have in Plex.
Unfortunately, that is an inconsistency from MyAnimeList because ideally, you would want to have a list of episodes on every release even if it is only just one episode.
As for the High School DxD Specials, it has multiple episodes, it has an Episode Tab but there are no episodes listed there as you can see here.
You’re right. At least in case of S01 Specials, there is hope if the episode details get updated some day, then your plugin can pick it up. But for the single episode OVAs, the problem will still persist.
One other option can be to put the single episode OVAs in a movie library in Plex. I tried that and it works out fine.
I’ve done that for many Anime shows which have feature length movies: Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion, Bleach…
For now, I’ve settled on the following arrangement:
Thanks for all your help @Fribbtastic. I’m simply amazed by your passion and your patience to keep this thread alive for so long and taking time to reply to every one who comes here.
Yes, that is also a possibility but really depends on how you want to Organize your Libraries. You could create a separate OVA library just to store those OVAs as a Movie. Since the Agent supports both TV-Show and Movie Library you can do whatever you want with it if you keep to the MyAnimeList naming and Episode ordering.
Thank you, I know out of first hand how frustrating it is to have some tool that you would want to use but it is too old and got abandoned. Since I use the MAL Agent myself I will keep offer support for it. And maybe soon I can switch to the official API back so that I can retire the outdated placeholder API but as long as the official API lacks the information we currently expect I don’t want to make the switch yet.
Daraku, any chance there is an issue going on with the server?
I’ve tried to match Pokemon, Pokemon Advanced Generation and Pokemon Diamond & Pearl (don’t judge me, it’s really for someone else) and while it matches, no metatdata or art is downloading.
This is happening on my VPS plex server and my local plex server.
Okay, works again. I have to change the XPATH of the Atarashii API running on my VPS when that happens but since I now know where I have to make the changes and have everything setup that I get the new XPATH this is pretty fast figured out.
Still, you need to clear the HTTP Cache from Plex so that you can get a fresh metadata request or else you will still get the bocken response.
I was just trying to update the metadata for a few shows (The Pokemone I listed above, Quanzhi Fashi IV and Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha). While it pulled the posters for the last 2, it did not pull them for any of the pokemon series and it also is not pulling metadata.
MyAnimeList changed something on their site again which made the extraction of the Synopsis fail and always return “There is currently no synopsis for this title”. I changed that and it should work again.
Clear your HTTP cache to get a new set of Metadata.
Specials and OVAs are their own release on MAL. So just like your question before please take the release name of the show on MAL and use that as the folder and filename of release.
