Relink moved and renamed music files

Hi there, I have been in the process of sorting out my music files.

I have playlists with the tracks files in and as I have been renaming and moving tracks, plex playlists will show some files as unavailable. Is there some way of relinking tracks, so Plex can play them correctly in playlists?

It sounds like Plex recognized some of your files as independent/new items when reorganizing your files. This can happen if files are associated/matched to a different release (artist, album) or if you’ve changed the agent for your library before reorganizing the files without refreshing your library (this way the original items might still have been associated via the old agent, while the “new” scan recognized them as different items based on the current agent).

TL;DR: I’m not aware of a straightforward way to re-link those items easily.
The most painful but cleanest approach will probably be filtering your library for those unavailable items and manually replace them individually in those playlists.

Thank you.

Plex seriously needs to sort out how it handles playlists as Jellyfin is slowly catching up in terms of features and media support. For example, there is no importing or exporting playlists of any kind, only via a service like soundliz. Plus, there should be a feature to be able to relink files so that tracks that are added to a playlist will stay, and the user can just browse to the file and relink. Save having to manually fix playlists whenever media is changed.
