Remote access allows access to web content without login

Server Version#:1.20.4.3517

When accessing the Plex server with a browser via LAN IP or WAN IP it shows all anonymous visitors a home screen with Plex web content (not my content) like Movies, News, etc. A user can click on, say, News and click to watch stuff. Is this normal?

Of course my content stored on the Plex server isn’t accessible unless logged in. I would like for the Plex server to only present a login screen and nothing else until authenticated.

A friends Plex server doesn’t behave like mine… it presents a login screen like I want. He has PlexPass, I don’t. Is this the difference?

Thanks.

Sounds like at some point you ticked the box to have it log on automatically as the current user…

You’re describing a Plex Home feature that allows to skip the user selection (e.g. from a client used only by a single managed user). Even with this option enabled, anonymous users will not be logged in if they open the IP/URL of your Plex Media Server (that’d be super scary).

Not quite sure what causes this for you.
From what I remember, this should not be related to a Plex Pass membership.

Yeah, I wouldn’t have selected any auto-login option but I did double check to be sure. Here’s what appears when accessing it from the internet via IP, without login.

plex-public

Anyone can browse web content (not my content) without logging in. Live TV, Web Shows, News, Podcasts, and Music all are playable. Movies & Shows aren’t (gives DRM security message).

When I select +YourMedia is says “Add your media to Plex” with a button that says “GET PLEX MEDIA SERVER”

My server otherwise seems to work great both local and remote. It’s accessible securely via plex.tv and devices such as Roku, etc. connected easily by use of link codes.

This is pretty much the standard behavior.
If a user has never signed into Plex, they’ll see the different online sources offered by Plex. None of those is streaming from your own server – it’s just linking to the content from plex.tv.
I suppose you’ve seen the login option when you had already been signed in to your Plex account before in that browser.

I’ve just tested this on my own server…
1st attempt: just open it with Chrome (not my standard browser but I might have been playing around with Plex some months ago) – Plex immediately offered me an option to login with my account
2nd attempt: after wiping Chrome’s browser data, Plex is showing me its “vanilla” environment that allows me to stream their online sources
