Wondering if I can pick somebody’s brain here on a possible work around of what I’m trying to accomplish. Been using Plex for years and have 15 remote users who access my server. I’m curious if there’s a way for the remote user with whom I share my library with to be able to share it with one or more of their Managed Users? What I’m trying to accomplish is to share the entire library with them but filter it down to PG or G rated so the children don’t end up scrolling through horror movies… Any thoughts of a possible config or workaround for this situation would help!
This will only work, if the managed users are replaced by real plex.tv accounts. (They can still be invited into the Plex home, with Plex pass).
Then you have to share with each of them and set the age restrictions.
Ok that’s what I was thinking too. The user would have to set up a Plex account for their children and I would add that to my server. They can then proceed to lock their account with a pin. Do you know if the login screen would contain both users or would they have to log out and back in under the other email? I’m not using Plex Home as I use that with my home. They’re added as separate Plex users with their own account.
Your friend is the one who has to set up the Plex Home and invite those user accounts into the Home (button ‘Invite Home Users’).
They will each have to accept this invitation. Then they will appear on the user switcher just like managed users.
You, on your side have to invite them as well, but only as regular ‘friend’ users (use the button ‘Share Libraries’!).
Each of them will have to accept this invitation as well.
Gotcha. Regardless new accounts have to be made on their end so I can invite them as a friend and they just add them to their Home. I can then add restrictions from my end.
Pro tip:
when juggling with several plex.tv accounts, use your web browser’s ‘incognito’/‘privacy’ mode, to avoid accidentally changing your own account!
Pro tip #2:
Each plex.tv account needs a distinct email address.
If you use Gmail, you can exploit a nifty feature of Gmail:
You can extend the regular email address of a gmail account with a + and a suffix, to create lots of additional adresses, which however all receive mail in one mailbox.
Example:
The normal address is myemailaddress@gmail.com
then you can create more addresses for your kids’ plex accounts like so: myemailaddress+ernie@gmail.com myemailaddress+bert@gmail.com myemailaddress+misspiggy@gmail.com
etc.
