I recently switched from AT&T fiber optic to T-Mobile 5G home internet because we moved to an area where T-Mobile is the only option. Since making this change, I’ve been unable to access my Plex Media server. I used to be able to access it using port 32400 on AT&T, but that isn’t working now. I’m wondering if anyone else has had success connecting a Plex Media server to T-Mobile 5G internet and if so, how did you do it. I saw that there are some VPNs that don’t require port forwarding, and I would really appreciate any help or suggestions.
Mobile carriers use CG-NAT addressing, which is incompatible with Plex remote access. It places the server in a double-NAT situation.
You need to find a VPN that supports port-forwarding and a unique, publicly available IPv4 address. The address does not need to be static, but must be unique to your VPN.
I saw twingate doesn’t require port-forwarding and it looks like they have a tutorial for Plex. Have you used this? I’ve never heard of this product.
Have not heard of it before. Give it a shot. Would be great if it works. A lot of people are looking for a reliable remote access solution that works with CGNAT networks.
I have not heard of Twingate either, but from the instructions it sounds like it acts as a DDNS so they handle the port forwarding for you. However, it looks like it needs a regular IPv4 address to work. I don’t think that would be a solution for CG-NAT, but you can give it a try.
