In the iOS app there seems to be no more “Advertise as Player” option for the Remote Control API (not related to “remote playback”). And any previous commands to control a device’s player like play/pause/change track no longer work because the app now refuses the connection despite having an authenticated plex token.
I made a whole app for automatically enabling subtitles temporarily upon rewind which no longer works except on the Apple TV app which hasn’t gotten the new experience yet.
Is there some other way to control the player directly via API? I tried sending commands directly to the server with the device ID and stuff and it doesn’t seem to work, only sending it directly to the player device would.

Jokes aside, yes I also used to use that functionality a lot, and am now either forced to rewrite all of my HA/NodeRed/python automation stuff to work around it, or finally move all of my homes devices away from plex, my personal players are already JF+Kodi, but plex was easier for the rest of the family since I had a lot of automation to make it easier.
Damn, didn’t expect to see you here! Can I just say, this tool is brilliant and I wish I’d known about this before Plex Experience began rolling out…
I’ve switched over to Infuse on the Apple TV because of the stuttering issue is in the public Plex app, and how bad the Experience Preview is. Sadly, all three apps miss out on the Siri “what did they say?” functionality is a significant limitation.
