NAS setups are becoming more incredibly common these days. Most of them require less power than PC setups and are more capable of running 24/7. Maybe Plex Media Server can implement a feature that could optimize NAS media server files using another PC media server’s hardware that is active on the network.
An underpowered server with less resources will queue an un-transcodable media to another much more powerful server’s conversion queue for optimization and will ask it to send the media back as another much playable version of the previous un-transcodable media.
Server 1: [Untranscodable Media] -> Server 2: [Media Conversion] -> Server 1: [Optimized Media]
I suggest a feature to remotely optimize media in multi-server setups. A underpowered server that can’t transcode media itself (typically a NAS) will have an option to optimize the media on another more powerful server (typically a PC) for future playbacks.
