Not how I read it…anybody removing into my server must also have a Plex pass?
Not clear. I host a Plex Server and I have a lifetime Plex Pass. Does my extended family have to have a Plex Pass to remote into my server?
If they are members of your plex home they do not need to have a plex pass, since you have one.
Not sure what that means…they live in another state, not in my home.
Since you have a plex pass and you are the admin, you all should be fine without having to buy more plex passes.
I think the FAQ is fairly straightforward.
I do not have a Plex Pass, but stream remotely from a Plex Media Server:
To stream remotely starting on April 29, 2025, you will need a Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass subscription on your account or the admin of the Plex Media Server from which you stream will need a Plex Pass subscription on their account.
If your family members don’t have a Plex Pass OR a Plex Watch membership, they can’t stream remotely. If YOU have a Plex Pass and share access to your server with them, they can access your server remotely.
Another money grab as usual from Plex.
Despite having a Plex Pass, I’ll be pivoting to Jellyfin first chance I get.
Press S to spit.
I’m confused. You just stated two conflicting conditions. Both are true yet have different results. And other posts came to the opposite conclusion.
Clearly the FAQ is not straightforward…
It is. If you have a Plex pass then other users can stream from your server for free. It’s perfectly clear in the FAQ.
Plex is being confusing on purpose, they are spamming people trying to juice sales. but based on your description it sounds like nobody in your plex ecosystem will need to buy another lifetime pass
Well it doesn’t friggin work. Cannot remote play ■■■■. I have lifetime Plex passes on 4 devices. I even upgraded one even though I shouldn’t have to not one video on any device all android devices will play remotely at all.
You paid $119 four times? WOW.
Don’t want to interfere, I am not happy either.
But the user account that you are posting from is not listed as being an active Plex Pass user. If this is not the admin account of your PMS server, then I am sorry, but the user that you are using to post the last reply cannot stream remotely from any server associated from another non-Plex Pass-user according to their new rules.
How else is Plex supposed to support the NEW APP EXPERIENCE that users on the forum are clearly in love with… than by charging this man for sharing his bandwidth he pays from from the hardware he owns, with friends and family?
Clearly it’s the tax that he must pay to support the cutting edge software development and features in the new app everyone here is raving about..
Buenos dias ;
Hace años que compre plex para poder verlo en mi IPhone , ahora no me deja , me dice que me he de suscribir a REMOTE WATCH PASS , pero yo compre la aplicación , y ahora me sale esto .A que se debe ?
MENUCA CAGADA
Gracias espero su respuesta
Yeah and getting a timely email out on the 1st of May letting me know this will be implemented, let me check … 2 days earlier !!
This is a slippery slope and it’s only going to get worse.
I need to do a server rebuild soon so will be looking at an alternative.
The first time I heard anything about this was today, in an email by Plex, announcing a change that apparently took effect last Tuesday. Isn’t that a little weird?
Also, my remote watching still works even though I don’t have a Plex pass…? What does that mean? Did they actually communicate the wrong date or something?
same here. just got the “news” about the change on 29.April only last night.
so I - as a server owner - who is hosting the software and the content locally, is asked to upgrade to plex premium so others can continue to watch from my server?? what do I pay here for?
anybody looking for an alternative: jellyfin + jellyplex-watched to sync progress.
hahahahaha. Jellyfin is open source and Emby is free everyone
I host my own server. I host my own files. I host my own DDNS. and you want me to pay for an mp4 player that’s already crammed full of adverts? you guys aren’t netflix, you’re a bad variant of VLC, completely deluded. bye
