They haven’t revoked anything yet, once that happens you would start as I’ve previously detailed.
I’m not Gracenote’s customer, they don’t concern me.

SONY Australia removed Gracenote from all their TV’s and Blu-ray disc players recently. I should be able to receive a full refund for my 4K Ultra HD disc player $500 worth right??? It worked when i bough it because Gracenote was a service installed onto it, now it has been removed, I am entitled to a full refund???
Yeah, can you fight that one for me?
Yes; if it is a major failure. The information is posted above but may vary depending on your state or territory.
Maybe you should look into it. I’m not going to do anything on your behalf sorry.
it’s not and nor is the DVR since you can use a free EPG service.
I am confident a solution will come to light in the months ahead. If you all just allow them some time to make it happen.
I’m not happy either but let’s stop with this legal BS.
This is not what plex has stated. Plex have stated that Gracenote cannot support the future developments that plex want to implement in its DVR and therefore plex has made the decision to drop Gracenote as the provider. Plex have sourced another provider which does not provide program information for Australia. This leaves Australia with substandard and problematic free services, or pay a monthly subscription for EPG.
I am happy to be corrected, and if this is a decision that has been forced onto Gracenote and plex, than I think this is something that would probably put a lot of the dissatisfaction and frustration to rest. I think the majority of the Australian plex community would still be frustrated, but would also understand.
Have you tried the free EPG service, it’s called freepg, and it’s rubbish, missing about half the channels and on the channels it does have there are many gaps.
@xjeepers Eloquently put!
Between the initial evaluation of the new provider’s international coverage and our work to migrate to use their new data, metadata support for Australia was reduced by our partner. This resulted in the removal of lineups and schedules from their offering and left us with only series and episode data for Australian programming. Without a full lineup with schedules, it isn’t possible to provide lineup information for our Live TV/DVR feature.
So, another option would be to explain to your potential new provider that reducing Australia EPG data to an unacceptable level is NOT acceptable to Plex and should that provider want Plex’s business, they need to include Australia at the required level.
It’s called advocating for your customers.
…and sorry, negotiating an extended trial to IceTV, essentially 2 months free worth AUD$5.98, is not advocating for your customers.
The very least you could do is also offer a free or heavily discounted Plex lifetime subscription. Better would be to negotiate a commercial deal with IceTV yourselves and then continue to provide full EPG service to your Australian customers
XMLTV works great!? Not since this failed changed - can not record many shows as a result

You’re missing one very important point. Plex were supplying Gracenote Data, at their cost, but now if we want decent EPG data into the future it is at our cost.
This is what people are upset about.
As a previous customer of IceTV, where they simply failed as a company (2015-2016) and the new owners completely ignored existing customers, this will be very much a slap in the face if I have to go back to them. Should I post all the previous emails from IceTV to this forum and see what feedback is left for PLEX then.
At that point, I did have 3 years left of a 4 year subscription which was priced at $100 per year, so you can imagine the bad taste I have for IceTV.
Totally agree, my use case that would be ideal.
Why not use the free information that is transmitted over the air by the tv station, sure it has less data than the XMLTV information, but that is better then nothing.
So, I have a Docker image currently working that grabs Australian xmltv data automatically once a day using the Shepherd perl script. The image isn’t optimised or as small as possible, I just needed something that worked for now, but once I’ve confirmed that it works over the course of several days and that Plex successfully uses the output file (timezones seem to be an issue, but I think I have them sorted now) I’ll post a new thread with brief instructions on how to use it. Not particularly handy if you’re not running Plex under Docker, but in that case you should be able to natively run the Shepherd script.
People using Plex shouldn’t be surprised, they have made many dumb decisions on the TV front and mostly ignore customers or any feedback. It’s always someone else’s fault. They jump from one I’ll conceived idea to another totally ignorant of the user base. They deny bugs and write this crap explanation when the are forced to explain. This response is probably better than average but less than satisfactory.
And you have been in touch with Gracenote and got their explanation then?
Nice. I can try this on a Synology NAS.
We don’t pay Gracenote for a product we pay Plex. Currently, if you have an issue with the Plex EPG do you go directly to Gracenote for support?
When we had Gracenote issues we were told by Plex not to contact Gracenote. This is a Plex issue and as i said typical of their customer support attitude. If it doesn’t affect them they don’t care.
I agree 100%. We pay Plex so Plex needs to provide a decent alternative or a decent explanation other than blame another company.
Think you dont get it.
Little example:
Your Internetprovider gives you acces to the Internet, you use to google a lot.
Now Google shuts down its service…
and you are blaiming your Internetprovider ![]()
Now translate this into the actual situation and you get it: its not a problem made by Plex.
There are a lot of things they can/should do better but they should be just responsible for their own services not for others!
