Can we please have a way to remove Common Sense Media from cluttering up the screen. It’s just more forced crap we can’t unselect from our UI. Already have age ratings based on country, it’s superfluous.
I recommend you move this outside the “Plex Player Preview” or whatever subcategory this is. You probably put this thread in the subcategory by mistake like I did before.
They’re probably getting some $$$ from someone for having it there. I know they previously indicated it can’t/won’t be able to be disabled.
Of course they are.
Cheers for the tip.
Oh, I missed that meeting. I really have to switch to Emby, this is spiralling the toilet right now.
I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around. Plex is paying to license the data from Common Sense Media.
Yeah, this would make sense particularly as part of a family controls feature for the platform (not just local media but also the VOD\LiveTV platform).
Edit: I too would like to turn it off because it’s kinda jarring as an element on screen; particularly one that I 100% do not care about.
Is that what the price hike to 749USD for a plex pass is going towards?
It’s there because someone asked for it.
Universal rating systems are 1000% better than country-based systems with no reasoning behind it. CSM has benefits for ANYONE with families and anyone that doesn’t like looking at 1 million different ratings systems thrown into their library because each country is “slightly” different. Not to mention, it doesn’t change with times. What was PG in 1970 isn’t PG in 2026 etc etc. CSM tends to adapt with the times. Sure, I 100% agree toggles would be nice, because I would love to remove MPAA ratings and just use CSM as its so much more accurate and I don’t need both, but the granular control of that is minimal and really not needed. Its not like its some giant ad on the Discover screen, its a very tiny box that says “age XX+” on each film.
Also, I still have no idea why people whine about lifetime passes. It’s not a sustainable model and I want Plex to remain. You literally had 15 years to buy it for $100. And you have 2 more months to buy it for $250. Would you rather Plex not make money, fire all employees and not provide a good home media solution? Because it’s still 10 years more advanced that JF or EMBY. I have all 3 and it’s not close.
I don’t even see what you’re talking about - I disable ALL the extra crap server side. All I see if my local media, exactly as it should be.
I don’t mind it, as long as that person over there finds how to disable it. I thought that was already possible.
Ah ha, that doesn’t show on all the players. Thanks
Nice speech. I don’t need kr want it though, so you’re kinda preaching to thin air and not solving the problem.
Ah yeah. That thread where several people already asked for a way to disable it becuase it’s uselss for us, ugly and adds more clutter to an already cluttered UI, and were competely ignored. Standard Plex response.
If we are strictly speaking UI design (and while its subjective yes), having the MPAA rating where it is kind of makes that the black sheep more than the CSM portion. There are 100’s of things I don’t need to see in the UI, but they are there and they don’t make me lose sleep either. As long as its nicely organized and isn’t causing performance problems I don’t get the complaint at all. This is completely different than say, not being able to disable Live TV, or Discover, or things that actually cause confusion between libraries and actual clutter. This is a 10px button that is useful to at a minimum 50% of the user base.
You are using a closed platform experience. If you want 100% customization use something else, like XBMC. Its like wanting Android customization but continually buying an iPhone.
I agree, I would like to 100% control the layout options, at LEAST per user setting if not server. It’ll never happen with this company though.
