Remove Deck Items

Wait, you can remove “On Deck” under Settings > Web > Dashboard. I did that so I don’t have to see it.

@webreaper mark the item as watched or unwatched. It will be off the list.

Thanks, that’s a nice workaround, but it’s not nice, and won’t work for shows with a lot of episodes as has already been said. It’ll do for now, but it’s annoying to have to toggle the state.

It does work. You can mark a whole show (and thus all of its episodes at once) as watched / unwatched, if you want.

I’d love the ability to mark certains show as to never appear on deck. Simple reason not all things are important enough to go on my deck. I may watch one or two episodes here and there but the items i continuously watch will be on deck. A simple edit of the show/movie to have a checkbox saying exclude show/movie from on deck.

Like others have said if you set the below setting to 0 it solves the problem. I also hate On Deck. I, nor my family, have ever used it. For a family of 5 on deck is useless. None of us are watching the same show at the same rate. So showing me the next show my daughter should be watching when im 5 episodes back is just annoying. No we dont need multiple user accounts.
Settings>Server>Library>Weeks to consider for On Deck>0

I actually like “On Deck” although, its a bit of a problem when I am caught up with a show and the “next episode” doesn’t show up “on deck” – That’s annoying

it would also be nice to make individual shows and “Never On Deck” or “Only New Episodes On Deck” etc…

Definitely agree with OP. I really love the ‘on deck’ feature, and I use it quite regularly, but there are times when i’ve been watching a movie (and finished it), but somewhere in between it doesn’t register the fact, and so I have this ‘half watched’ movie stuck there. I can mark it as watched, but then that triggers other things (trakt.tv integrations) that are a hassle to go and undo later. Similarly when someone’s been watching on the appletv app, and you switch users and it thinks you were watching what they were, forever on deck.

Would be such a nice feature, and wouldn’t even have to impact on how people use it currently.

I know there are many posts addressing this issue but there seems to be no way of removing items from the deck. I know there are workarounds but they can be really annoying when it comes to series. Anyway, this seems like a basic feature and I cannot believe it’s still not on the books, years after the first post concerning the issue.

This is almost as absurd as the lacking auto play, the fact that you have to create a playlist to achieve this is way too hacky and frankly feels redundant.

Seriously, if you don’t have time to develop such a feature please open source the relevant part of the code so I can do it myself.

I like plex a lot but lack of basic features like this definitely keeps me from buying a plex pass.

Steven

I just started using Plex and getting rid of the On Deck, Recently Played etc. was my first mission. Maybe the feature to remove them when the OP first posted wasn’t there then. But it is now, Simply go to settings/web/dashboard then you will see five check boxes to remove or re-order the Deck, Watch Later, Recommended, , Recently Added and Channels if you wish.

I was also looking for that feature. When I don’t have the time to watch some shows and maybe like to catch up later it is nice to have them there - ‘On Deck’. But sometimes that space gets cluttered with too many shows - yes, perhaps I shouldn’t watch all those shows - and then it appears that some new episodes of shows that I watch regularly don’t appear on the Deck.

I would like to disable shows from On Deck and enable them back to it later.

Another hacky work around but at least for tv shows, if you mark the last episode of the last season as watched it is removed from on deck.

Please please add the ability to remove things in a not stupid work around manner.

I will add my voice to this as well. It is something that would make life a lot easier. And increase the customer satisfaction off of this utility.

Thank you,
Rob

Thanks for this.

I would also like to see this added. I like the on deck feature, and extended the time limit on mine to 52 weeks so that when new seasons become available, they are automatically added to the queue. However, I have started watching some shows that I don’t have any interest in continuing at the moment. I don’t want to completely reset all of them to watched or unwatched making it more problematic when I resume the show at some point, nor do I want to remove the on deck feature or shorten the time limit, removing all of the off season shows just to remove that one show.

I may end up creating a cli tool to edit the database quickly, and if I do, I’ll post it here. But this is a very easy and non intrusive feature request to add, and I really don’t understand the resistance to it.

Never liked seeing on deck items so I went to Settings > Server > Library > Show Advanced > Weeks to consider for On Deck, and then entered “0” so it doesn’t show any on deck items anymore.

So I have an Ouya with Plex, it’s an Android Gaming Console. I’m an adult, I watch things that have names and front images I’d rather not have “On Deck” when my son comes over for the weekend. Thankfully I’ve never really used Plex, we’ve mainly been an XBMC household since a modded Xbox 1 (the original) could run it.

The first quote will take care of Browser interface on my desktop, but does nothing for the Ouya. The Ouya doesn’t seem to have a Setting Feature to choose what is on screen, like basically controlling your Dashboard.

The second quote doesn’t seem to do anything about these stand alone videos. They stay even if set to 0.

The “Mark as Watched” from Desktop does make it go away (so I guess that’s what I’ll have to do), the Android App is set to TV as opposed to mobile, click on the file, brings up a little splash screen with some info about it, there is a checkmark that when click goes to a minus sign, I guess that’s the apps way of marking it as unwatched which also make it disappear from “On Deck”.

I just feel I could never just click on Plex App in Ouya when not alone as I would not know, “Have I cleaned up?” Ya, sure, the moral of the story could be, “Don’t do anything you wouldn’t want your mother knowing about,” but that might not be the best mindset for a media player service.

Doesn’t seem to have an edit feature so I’ll add a new comment.

When “Add to Library” there is check mark box for:

Include in dashboard
Include content from this library in On Deck, Recently Added, and global slideshows.

I think that will stop any embarrassing moments.

Or set up another user for your son and use that account when he is around.

While I appreciate your suggestions, they are often just hack work arounds that don’t actually address the core complaints. I don’t want a queue. I just want the ability to take things off without losing my place.

Like virtually everyone else in this thread, I have movies and shows that I don’t want to lose my place on, but I don’t want showing up for months. Shortening the number of weeks doesn’t help because I want that for the shows i am watching. Besides, that feature doesn’t seem to apply to movies either. I started to watch a Movie a year ago that is still on Deck, despite On Deck only considering the last 2 weeks. The only reason i keep it that short is so that I don’t have a million items on it i’m not interested in atm.

As an engineer I HATE when people say this to me, but it really feels like this should be a relatively trivial feature to add that would clearly make a bunch of your users happy. It already filters based on the date. It should not be hard to add a “never show on deck” flag or a flag that resets when the show/movie is started again. I understand the functionality and use cases might be slightly more than that, but not by much.
The only reason not to add it is because the developers are against this feature for some reason, in which case I’d be really curious as to their reasoning.

It’s not trivial. Currently OnDeck is dynamically created based on a query of your watched status. There isn’t a mechanism available to track and exclude content from the results. Yes, it can be done, but would require significant changes. There are a few feature requests to modify/augment the behavior of OnDeck. I would suggest find one and voting there.

Marking something as watched (when it isn’t) barely even qualifies for the term ‘workaround’.

That said, Plex desperately needs a queue or actual watch later feature, just like Netflix, so maybe a workaround is not what’s needed.

Would like the option to exclude things from on deck though. I’ll occasionally throw on a random episode of something (like The Office) and then it just sits there.

It is an extremely trivial thing. I don’t understand the view point of a company that says no to their customers for a heavily requested feature. And, it is a feature request that enhances the product, does not affect existing functionality. I do programming as well and you can’t say that this is a hard thing to do.
