It’s already trivial to manipulate on deck by either removing it completely or by setting the items in question to either watched/unwatched. The petulant declarations of a few people that absolutely want a shiny red button for their special use case do not merit making Plex more complicated than it needs to be.
For those who think this is has an “easy workaround” and that marking a video as “watched” will solve the problems, put an entire series on “shuffle” and try to remove it from On Deck. EVERY SINGLE EPISODE that was part of the shuffle now comes up as “on deck” and needs to be marked as “watched” one at a time! Oh, you marked that one episode as “watched”? Okay, cool. The next episode now needs to be marked. Then the one after that. Then the one after that. Then the one after that…
So, no, simply marking it as “watched” is NOT an easy workaround, and, no, adding a single feature does NOT make Plex “more complicated than in needs to be”. It’s a simple addition to whatever existing “if” statement that can be integrated into the existing code. If there are no files on deck or “show on deck” is turned off, then don’t show the “On Deck” section. Done. There’s nothing complicated about it.
@SolarisGuy Not that it will help much with the issue at hand, in your case you could have went to the Show or Season level and marked the entire Show or Season as watched at 1 time. In my case, I guess I don’t watch a show on shuffle if I haven’t watched it all the way through (Spoilers, oh my
). Just figured I’d let you know that it can be a simple one click in your situation as well.

Not really, removing is priority one for me. I watch many series and I sometimes stop in the middle to favor another. My deck is flooded and I’d like to clean it up, which I cannot do. The non-linear nature of the way I watch implies any structure but a queue by the way.
I agree. This happens to me all the time. And currently, if I accidentally started a series with let’s say 10 seasons, I have to mark as “Watched” over and over and over for each and every episode until it finally disappears.
I agree, i would love the option to hide or exclude from on deck, marking something i’ve watched as unwatched just to hide it from the list or the opposite, is silly and ruins the whole point of watched tagging. Programmatically it would be adding a row to the same metadata table that stores watched status only it would reference the show not the episode to allow a show to be excluded from on deck and changing the query for on deck to take that row into account. Relatively easy, that is of course assuming the code is written the way i think it is, which it may not be. The only downside would be the need to write a way to undo said selection or to show all shows that have been hidden, it could be placed in the settings menu or something similar, that’s the most difficult part that i can see on this, saving users from themselves.
A lot of people, and even the Plex employee, who have posted in this tread seem to entirely miss the point.
I want to be able to exclude specific shows from On Deck. I do not want to mark them as watched, I do not want to hide the On Deck entirely. On Deck is an extremely useful feature for the shows that I watch on a regular basis. When a new episode is added, it reappears On Deck and I can get to watching it.
But take for example shows like Family Guy, The Simpsons, The Office, etc. These are shows that I will occasionally put on shuffle, watch 1 or 2 episodes then come back to it a few weeks or months later. The problem is, if I do this, then those shows clutter up my On Desk, making it more confusing to use.
I don’t want to mark these shows as Watched because, well, they haven’t been watched. I don’t know why that seems to be so hard for some people to understand. I’m not talking about a queue, I just want a very basic “Hide Show from On Deck” option.
This should be a very trivial solution. Simply take the list of shows that the user doesn’t want to ever appear On Deck and when Plex does a database query for the On Deck stuff, simply exclude any shows that match that list. Add a simple check box or similar in the Edit Show dialog (or just in the left hand column with the “Play All”, “Play Next”, etc buttons) and you’re done. Something this simple should take much time to implement.

Wait, you can remove “On Deck” under Settings > Web > Dashboard. I did that so I don’t have to see it.
Huh? I don’t see “Dashboard” visible as an option under Settings>Web.
That is an old setting. It is no longer available. If you want to remove On Deck completely, there is 1 way. Settings \ Server \ Library \ Week to Consider for On Deck. Set that to 0.
However, the point of this thread, which I do get, is to remove individual shows. This cannot be done right now.

It is not that trivial to implement this feature.
Although it is not a critical feature for me it would be nice. I’ve setup the Guest account for my home Plex Media Player so I don’t have TV shows and movies in my on deck that I have no intention of watching whenever friends come over and we put something on. But just now I accidentally put something on for the kids under my account and now I’ll have Paw Patrol and Toy Story on my deck for the next two months. Toy Story is easy to get rid of but a few seasons of Paw Patrol is a pain.
So yeah, I feel it would be a nice feature to have but it doesn’t kill me that it’s not there. It’s just a small annoyance for me. I’ll watch a few of my shows and movies and it’ll at least disappear from my most recent on deck.
+1 for the option to remove selected shows from On Deck.
I really like the On Deck feature for new episodes of shows that I am currently watching regularly each week.
But… there are some other shows that I am part way through a series, but I have put on hold, and don’t want to watch them at the moment. Also, I might re-watch an old episode of something, or playback a bit of a show to check for quality, and then it sits On the Deck until 2 weeks has passed, which is the setting I have for On Deck in the server.
Settings - Server - Library - Show Advanced - Weeks to consider for On Deck
Reduce the number to 0 weeks and On Deck goes away.

We know that. We don’t want On Deck to go away.

You are missing the point. People want to monitor shows, just exclude some. Basically say you have every single episode of the Simpsons. You random pick an episode to watch, now you are stuck with this thing on deck for X amount of weeks.
I love on Deck, i quickly jump to the next episode of a show or continue a movie. AWESOME. But on deck everything i or somebody watches is too much.
I guess the biggest things is it being a users choice. If i exclude a show off deck that would be for my user, other users pick their excludes.
Foot is itching. Amputate foot. Itch goes away.
Another Example would be, I added a new show, lets just say TWO seasons have gone by and I have not actually watched it yet… (couch Longmire)… at this point, its fallen off the Deck, BUT still unwatched…
Finally, I sit down to watch it, S01E01, and I like it, time to move to the next … Wait? What? S01E02 isnt On Deck? huh? what?
If that has been changed… then ignore my ignorance. !

New shows are not shown in OnDeck. So this example isn’t right. If you’ve never watched a show, then all of a sudden start watching, the earliest unwatched episode will appear in OnDeck. So if you started with S02E05, S01E01 will be shown.
@MovieFan.Plex thanks for setting me straight, perhaps, I am thinking, I watched S01E01 but didnt move past that for a year, at which point, it didnt bring anything back to the On Deck,
perhaps thats changed, not sure
Have you checked the metadata downloaded properly for the episode you expect to appear on deck? I know if something goes wrong during matching it doesn’t always (ever?) appear on deck… Just a thought.
it shows up to start, just after it elapse the X Weeks, it doesnt come back
+1 for a ‘hide this / remove’ button for plex On Deck items.
I know people are trying to be helpful, but offering workarounds to an issue that has prompted a feature request isn’t helpful at all. Likewise people that don’t need this feature stating noone needs it and the OP is wrong is also not helpful.
I have 6/7 series on the go, some I’m half way through, some I’m up to date on waiting for new episodes. On Deck is a useful feature that I don’t want to remove.
I recently watched 3 episodes of DC Legends of Tomorrow, frankly I find it rather cheesy so am reluctant to watch another episode until there’s nothing else available. S01E04 has sat on my On Deck for weeks now.
I don’t want to reduce the “Weeks to consider for On Deck” value as some of my other series might get removed before I get around to watching, I understand the workaround marking all as watched then unwatched - but isn’t that the point of reporting this on the forum?
I agree with @imarotte and others on this thread stating that it seems like a somewhat simple request. You already have filters / queries for dates and watch status, adding a flag not to show on deck, that is reset / set back to 0 when the show is next watched is not a massive change especially for an experienced engineer / coder.
I suspect, as others have, there is other reasoning for this being denied/danced around. Maybe the model is too screwed to make changes like this, maybe they don’t want to add it for their own reasons, maybe they’ve got so much other stuff to do this is lowest priority.
I too found Plex employee replies to this topic to be rather unsatisfactory. However I can appreciate that when representing a company on a public forum, you have to be careful with what you say and have to use a certain amount of tact to respond in a reasonable yet professional manner.
I’d like to think that each +1 on this thread increases the priority of this request, but from experience in working at other companies in similar sectors, it most likely does not. Disappointing as this is one of my only issues with Plex.
