Replace a file, shows up as new under "Recently Added", stats lost

Latest version 1.25.3.5385 changed its behaviour when replacing a file already in the library.

Problem:
Replacing a file (better resolution, audio or reencoded for file size, broken file) thats already in my library used not to show up again on “recently added”. With the original file still in its position (e.g. movie.720p.mkv) and adding the same movie (movie.1080p.mkv) to the directory and hitting “scan library files” it never showed up under “recently added”, which is a perfect and preferred behaviour, i could now delete the original file and all was fine.

Expected behaviour:
Replace a file already in my library and not showing up as new in “recently added”, keep stats on that movie (for eg. tautulli).

Actual behaviour:
Shows up as new movie, all stats are lost, plex sees it as a new item/movie.

Thats very annoying, as replacing a file is a common task, atleast for me.

1.25.2.5319 works as expected
1.25.3.5385 changed :-/

Server Version#:1.25.3.5385
Player Version#:

Did you by chance change the library agent since you added that original file?
If so and you didn’t refresh the metadata of your library, this can result in Plex no longer recognizing both versions to belong to the same movie (therefore creating a new item which will also show up in the recently-added hub on its own).

Hi!

Nope, just went from 1.25.2.5319 => 1.25.3.5385 and back again.

Please reproduce the issue and grab the server logs for me.

I cannot trigger this behaviour on my side.

Sorry for the delay, it takes a little bit of effort

But its reproducable, logs attached.

regards,
ntx

Unfortunately those logs are not useful as Debug logging is not enabled.

Please see point 3 here on how to enable this: Reporting issues with Plex Media Server | Plex Support

Once enabled you’ll have to re-create the issue and provide new logs.

It seems to be fixed in 1.25.3.5409.
