The scenario:
I, and I'm halfway--alright so I'm only 48%--certain many others use the Plex Media Server and give remote access to family members and friends. This is a great feature. As more and more content gets added to the server, there is a higher requirement for server maintenance: increased storage space, better power supplies, or simply downtime in which new files must be renamed and/or moved. While this is done the service is sometimes unavailable to users. Without a way of easily notifying all users that there is going to be maintenance or planned downtime, friends and family are left wondering why the service has been interrupted.
Another scenario is that many casual users don't follow the Plex updates with the religious fervor that your typical plex pass users might and thus miss out on some fantastic features that they don't realize exist.
The Request:
I'd like to see the Plex Media Server allow the admin user to send a notification to the other users. Under Settings --> Server, there could be an option for notifications. Under this new section, the admin would be able to specify which users or if all users should receive the notification. Then there would be a simply textbox that would allow the admin to tailor a message to the users so that the next time they log onto the Shared Library, they would be greeted with the notification either warning them of downtime, notifying them of particular new content of interest, or pointing out new features that they may not be currently taking advantage of. Once the user has clicked OK, the message will quit appearing until the notification has been updated again by the admin.
Optionally, it would be nice to have a "read receipt" notice back on the Server that would let the admin know which users have clicked "ok" and which haven't seen the message.
In this manner Plex Admins would be more easily able to manage their ever growing list of users.
Thanks for considering this request.
