ok - caveat - i hate this idea as much as i love it (as i think if implemented it could take away from what plex truly is).
but, gamifying plex.
i think this should be something that is off by default and should only ever be turned on intentionally. but see a this playing out a few ways.
gamifying for users:
the idea first struck me, as i have two "required" viewing libraries (think about adding a few music ones). these are movies (breakfast at tiffany's, ferris bueller's day off) and a few tv show episodes (the it crowd, series two, episode one, "the work outing) that i think all human beings, and especially friends of mine should be required to watch.
but then i thought,
"what if i could 'force' them to watch?" i.e.: they can't access anything else, or, certain libraries only open up once they complete pre-defined milestones.
OR,
they can't watch the blu-ray versions, until they've watched the good ones in the right order.
OR, OR, OR,
badges. for watching all of smallville in 5 months (i know somebody). or not having any space on my ipad for anything but plex due to all the offline content.
milestones. achievements. unlocks. +then plex can show up in game center.
i think the largest benefits is that it gives you+your friends something to
yell about+quickly not become friends over in the funnest way possible,
not all that unlike super mario wii brothers.
and THEN,
gamifying for servers:
leaderboards/badges for greatest number of concurrent external streams, greatest number of subtitles for a single movie, absolute worst score based on imdb averages, etc.
i don't have as many good ideas for this, but, it could be added incentive for those people needing one more reason to buy the lifetime pass.
