In my opinion Plex Music is just missing a few key features that are preventing me from using it for my main music collection.
- Music playlist import / export (m3u etc). This is vital! Playlists are so important with large music collections, any existing playlists on other music software are difficult to import, and as far as I can tell - impossible to export! I am never going to switch to a service that I am locked into - and cannot recover playlists if I decided to switch in the future!
- Music playlist drag / drop. Almost all music players (iTunes, Spotify, Deezer, GPM, MusicBee) have playlists as a list down the side of the player. This would be incredibly convenient, and allow for fast dragging and dropping of songs into different playlists. Sorting music into playlists is incredibly slow and tedious.
- Improved Plex Mix through ratings. I see Plex Mix as an equivalent for Spotify Radio; and Plex should incorporate the thumbs up / down function to indicate whether a song is a good or bad fit with the mix (just like Spotify). Without this it seems like Plex Mixes are a bit of a shot in the dark - sometimes they work well but then a completely different genre song will come up and it seems like there is no way to ‘teach’ Plex and improve it’s algorithm.
- Not vital - but playlist covers! Even Spotify made this possible recently; iTunes has had it for years. Custom playlist covers look soooooooo much better than four random album covers in a grid. Example below
