Request: Plexamp to integrate with more players

I’m liking Plexamp, but I want to ditch Roon and the only thing stopping me is Plexamp doesn’t integrate with other players.

Is there a chance that this is in the roadmap?

What are you referring to by “other players” here?

Currently I can send to Chromecast and Sonos devices from my Android App and I think Airplay from an iOS device.

I have no way of sending to Bluesound devices without plugging in a Chromecast audio device which doesn’t exist anymore. Yet in Roon they have their own transport (obviously the hardware supports this).

I would love to see Plex get to a point where devices could opt to a “works with plexamp” feature instead of relying on chromecast or airplay

That’s unlikely just given the difficulty in those sort of partnerships. The “escape hatch” for us is Pi (or similar) running headless Plexamp and connecting to whatever you want via optical/audio in.

I guess I’m happy with that so long as the Pi headless version gets to a friendly/stable version. Something that can be installed with Diet Pi

Should work on dietPi, but have not test-installed in a while.
If you find it breaks, open a ticket and I will have a look!

Could you not also look at pushing to UPnP clients ? I know you have a DNLA server but that’s not using the PlexAmp UI. Others manage this such as Audivarna.

I’m looking to get away from Roon and Audirvana and just have Plexamp play nicely with my Bluesound Powernode.
For now I’m using LMS to AirPlay my local library to my Bluesound device, because I’m on Android and can’t Airplay. I will probably just buy an iPad Mini or used Chromecast audio for now.

I would very much like to have this as well.

You might as well dedicate the iPad to this and keep it plugged into power; since it has to stay active to play and send your music all the time. I need a solution where I can delegate music playback to a DLNA-enabled network player or amp. I have a network player in all my systems but I can’t use PlexAmp to push music to them via DLNA. I use AirPlay but it is limiting. Just think. I have a PC with plex server, I use an Apple device with Plexamp to access to the server and use airplay to send the music to my streamer. Either that, or I have to have a computer/pi at every location to play Plexamp into my amp. Limiting and frustrating at times.

It’s not ideal to have a dedicated ipad for this.

I tried to push direct to Sonos and plexamp to Sonos integration doesn’t like my flac library, so that sucks.

Basically I only use plexamp on mobile, away from home

UPnP is non-optimal for a number of reasons.

Much better/cheaper to have a headless Plexamp running for the same purpose.

You are right in this sense, but I have three or four different locations where I listen to music throughout the house. I already own network players in all but I can’t put Pi’s on all of these places. I have to move my laptop and DAC around, or use AirPlay. I don’t like to use my phone for AirPlay so I need another Apple device. Besides, I use Apple but I don’t like Apple, especially AirPlay with its limitations. If only I had DLNA in Plexamp, I could stream to my network players easily. Is this hard to implement?

Yeah, and we’d prefer to focus our energy on the multi-room headless Plexamp.

What is the reason for not being able to put headless plexamp players there? They really take up very little space, and can do wifi, even if ethernet is preferred. I can see definitely see your issue if you resort to using Airplay.

Well, I listen to music at four different places at home and I can’t buy four pi’s at the moment. I already have network players/receivers in those locations and I am trying to make use of them for Plexamp. I am not very knowledgeable on pi and updating all those pi’s individually might be a hassle as well.

I can’t understand a home music streaming system requiring you to buy pi’s for your music systems, but that is just old me, it seems

(Due to some glitch, I may have posted this message several times. If so, my apologies.)

Multiroom Plexamp on Pi’s would be pretty sweet and would tackle Volumio nicely, but…Volumio does other things as well.

If Plex gets into the hardware game and releases their version of Chromecast Audio (Plexamp puck of sorts), I’m down.

I’d love a device like this. Pi’s are great, but something super small would be a lot easier to place around my apartment.

The script makes installs/upgrades very easy! This is why I created it. I have 4 players at my house.
