UPDATE: December 2014: I am now happy that the 'Plex Service Tray' Icon provided by cjmurph as part of PMS As Service solution meets my requirements.
So I no longer need the feature I proposed here in October 2013
Would it be too much work to provide a stand-alone program that provides the functionality of the System Tray Plex icon?
It would help Windows users who try to implement Plex as Service solution (offered by cjmurph here) or variation on it as I am doing now using Scheduled Task to start Plex Media Server on boot up (posts starting here on the cjmurph topic).
It will probably also be of benefit when the Plex team implement the long outstanding Plex as Service feature request. So it would not be wasted development effort.
I have been using this as a service for QUITE some time and have to say one of my favorite features thanks to the community. Everything seems prewritten (i dont code, props to both parties) and think this would be a huge benefit to users.
Why so usefull? If my power goes out, my server will boot back up and autorun plex securely without me having to lift a finger.
"Probably AFK, i think the servers off. can you fix it?" "yea buddy just turn the power on! Saved me a lot of headaches
I am actually quite happy now with the Plex Service Tray Icon supplied as part of the Plex Service package provided by cjmurph. It is adequate and what is missing when compared to the standard Plex Media Server system icon is not something I would want - the check for updates button. I would rather be in control of downloading and installing the updates - especially since there have been loads of issues with truncated downloads from the back-end servers reported by users over the past 12 months.
Thanks for your support but the package from our colleague cjmurph meets the requirement
