[REQUEST] Support for ClearPlay

ClearPlay is an automatic movie filtering service that lets you as a parent choose to cut out offensive content (profanity, gore, ■■■, etc.), making it kid-safe. As much as I'd like to watch the awesome "300" movie with my kids, the last thing I want them to see is boobies galore.

From what I understand, ClearPlay only works using their special DVD player and a USB stick with the filters downloaded onto it. But what I envision is the ability to add ClearPlay filters to our Plex movie libraries the same way we manually add subtitles (same location as movie file). Plex would read the filter and intelligently cut out swear words, ■■■ scenes, and bloody violence in real-time, depending on the set preferences.

Visit the ClearPlay website for more info on how it all works: https://www.clearplay.com

Interesting...

Im going to move this tho to the Plex-Pass Feature Request forum, as you are a plex-pass'er :)

Seems like a difficult feature to implement in order to avoid a little ■■■■ & ass. If its ever implemented, id like to have it work the other way around also, just to spice up boring movies like “Amour” and the likes.

Will it produce results like this?

The movie Year One (rated PG-13) would literally be cut into 5 minutes of title sequence followed by end credits.

I really don’t get the appeal of parental controls and censorship…

Disclaimer: Video doesn’t actually contain anything NSFW, the unnecessary censorship (from the Jimmy Kimmel Show) only creates the illusion of it.

Lol you must not have kids.

No. Its just that censorship isnt a tool to use in any context

As much as we all love the Censorship vs Parental Controls Debate... simple facts tell us (unofficially) That I believe that it is unlikely something like this will ever be supported due to technical issues. The nice part of a DVD or Officially Published Media is that it is all the same. Writing a table of contents & making a service out of it is rather easy to do. Plex doesn't handle Officially Published Media (like BluRay, DVD, TV or even Online Services Downloads), it handles video files indiscriminately with little consideration to actual content. Plex is primarily concerned with the file's technical details. If you tell Plex that a file is Doctor Who S01E01, but really it's Torchwood S04E01, it has no way of telling the difference besides what you name the file.

In short, we'd have to have / start a database of censored elements / aspects base on something like File Hashes (re: Subtitles) or Distribution (re: Release Groups/Pirated), or blind faith rips of Official Media (re:MakeMKV,etc). Just imagine the subtitle and TV/Movie Metadata problems compounded on each other. Then make it 100x worse & then throw in there the usual touch of morality, ethics and personal opinion on the subjects.

Lol you must not have kids.

Luckily I've been spared so far.

ClearPlay(and its competitors) is also under legal dispute if I am not mistaken. Its basically a file that tells the player don't play from this time to this time, or in some cases don't play audio from this time to this time. It's never typically used to block violence, just religiously objectionable material. Which its why its most popular in the state of Utah. It's also why the very first thing that is on the list of blocked item is Blasphemy.

An issue that might arise is that not all movie files are created equal, so a block at 34M:45S on my movie file might block nudity it might be too late on your version. This all assumes you get the time filter file from ClearPlay other wise you will have to have someone go over the video and mark all the areas with objectionable material.
