Request to Restore Smart Episode Downloads & Organised View

Hello Plex team,

I am a Plex Pass subscriber and use Plex extensively on my iPad for offline viewing. Until recently, the iOS app allowed me to automatically keep a set number of unwatched episodes downloaded (5, 10, 15, 20, etc.). After watching an episode, Plex would automatically fetch the next one. This was one of the most useful features for travel and offline use.

After the recent update, this feature has been removed. The new app only allows downloading single episodes or entire seasons, and the Downloads area now shows one long ungrouped list of all media, rather than organising downloads by show. [mod-edit: duplicate, see below]

This is a significant regression in functionality and makes offline viewing far more difficult. I understand that the “new Plex Experience” may still be in development, but there has been no communication or timeline regarding when core download features will return.

As a paid Plex Pass user, I am requesting:

  1. Restoration of the “Automatically keep next N unwatched episodes” feature

  2. Grouping of downloaded items by show/season [mod-edit: duplicate, see below]

  3. An update or roadmap indicating when these features will be reintroduced

These features were important to how many of us use Plex, and their removal has had a real impact on the usability of the app.

Thank you for your attention.

There’s already an existing suggestion to group downloads by show/season.

Let’s focus your suggestion on the automatic download aspect (download x next unwatched episodes, keep x episodes).

That being said, Plex have already confirmed they’re working to bring both back.
