[RESOLVED] enable thumbnails when skipping

Hello,
plex already skips only at multiples of 10 seconds, can you add an option to add a thumbnail of the scene we’d be skipping to? smth similar to what youtubetv is doing: https://thestreamable.com/news/youtube-tv-is-improving-thumbnail-preview-while-you-fast-forward

thanks!

Be prepared to make your cpu hurt and waste disk space

thanks, i dont see the same options on that article on my Prefences.xml (i’m running 4.34.4), i do see a GenerateChapterThumbBehavior=“never” but chapters are not skip intervalls, were you referring to a specific options i should add instead?

also, do you have an estimate of the additional space usage? are they generated a episode viewing time or at library scan time?

I don’t know if Plex player will show a thumbnail when hovering your mouse over the timeline, but try this:

Edit your library and enable Enable video preview.....

Then go to Settings > library and enable Generate video preview thumbnails
After that, you can manipulate the thumbnail interval using the parameter GenerateBIFFrameInterval

perfect, it works exactly as i want it to – thanks!

do you know where the thumbnails are store? i imagined somewhere in PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex\ Media\ Server/Media/localhost/*/*.bundle/Contents/Thumbnails/* but that directory only contains a single thumb1.jpg

want to check how much space they use so that i can monitor it properly

…Contents/Indexes/index-sd.bif

indeed, thanks!

JFYI, the size of that file is below 10MB (i imagine per episode), with the average size around 5-6MB; so that’s not that bad

thanks for your help!

The .bif files can be significantly larger, but I agree, it’s worth it.
