Restart PHT without reboot

Hi All,

Is there a way to restart PHT with using kill or rebooting it?

Thanks,

Bill

Hi All,

Is there a way to restart PHT with using kill or rebooting it?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "with using kill or rebooting it".
That sentence is not proper English. (Though it would be if you meant to say "without" instead of "with".)
Considering the thread title I assume that you did mean to say "without using kill or rebooting it".

In any case, there are only a few ways of restarting PHT, as follows:

1: I assume you already know that there is a "Restart" command which performs a full reboot of the RPi.
(Found in the side menu opened by pressing DPad_Left on a keyboard or remote while in the main menu.)
As part of that reboot PHT will of course be launched again.

2: There is also a similar "Shut Down" command which simply shuts down PHT as well as the OS.
This command should always be used before turning off power to the RPi, to safeguard against storage corruption.
After shutdown you have to break and then reconnect power to the RPi to reboot it and thus relaunch PHT.

3: You can also connect from a computer and use SSH protocol to give the command "killall plexhometheater".
That command will terminate the currently running instance of PHT after which a new instance will launch automatically. (Because PHT is the main app of the RasPlex OpenELEC system.)
This is the quickest restart possible, but awkward as you can't do it through the GUI of PHT itself.

4: There is also the SSH command reboot, which I know you're aware of (since you mention it in another thread).

When using SSH for this and other CLI commands the SSH username and password are "root" and "rasplex" respectively.
(I know you already know this, so I include that part for the benefit of others who read this.)

I'm not sure why you want to avoid using "kill" as you say, in restarting PHT, and starting a new instance before terminating the current one would most likely not work at all. This system was designed to have only one instance of PHT running, ao having two PHT instances running at the same time would most likely mess up their access to various resources.

Hi dlanor.

sorry for my bad english it's been a long day. Your option 3 is what I was looking for.

Thanks,
