Resume TV/Movie Playlists

I use playlists for TV universe viewing orders, and one of the most challenging parts of long playlists is that there is no ability to resume watching where you left off.

I have friends who access my Plex who would like to dive into these universes, but there is no easy way to pick back up. Not everyone uses Playlists for music or wants to shuffle playlist items. Playlists were part of Plex before music was even added, but functionality has always remained pretty stagnant.

I love all the visual updates I’ve been seeing lately, but it would be great to see more focus on something functional versus cosmetic changes, like better playlist functionality. Specifically:

  • Being able to drag up/down multiple items at a time
  • Move groups of items between playlists
  • Toggle entire playlists as Played/Unplayed
  • But more importantly – a Resume Playlist option

Any chance this is on the agenda or there is a plugin that does this? Functionality like this would really give Plex a competitive profile boost.

Currently experiencing this with my Marvel playlist. These features would be awesome improvements.

Same here. Marvel TV, Arrowverse, One Chicago, DC Animated Universe, etc.

It’s challenging when you set things up involving multiple series and films that should be watched chronologically, but there is no easy way to continue where you left off. I would think Continue Playing should be a standard function of any playlist. It could be an On Deck option.

Here is another question:

Is there an easy way to edit a playlist. I am trying to reorder the arrow verse and it would be impossible in the GUI!

I haven’t found any way to edit anything except dragging each episode or movie up or down one-by-one on the left. It’s pretty tedious. I used Playlists a lot, and unfortunately Plex has one of the worst Playlist interfaces I’ve seen. As I said, updates to their Playlist capabilities could really boost their competitive edge and user approval.

My personal opinion is to copy the playlist order if you don’t already have it somewhere (I’ve got the DCU/Arrowverse & feel a playlist is the only way to watch it. Jumping around in Netflix between shows made me fall off the series a few years ago & I’m just starting to get back into it with the new shows. I use THIS to order them) & then delete the stuff where you have to add if it’s more than a few items. It actually takes less time to go into the different series (I Group them together by having the Sort Title “DC: Arrow” & “DC: Titans”) & add each episode one by one than it does to drag them to their correct spot
