[Feature Request] Display/edit entire play queue

I know this is not new (see e.g. Request: Longer play queue scrolling length - #3 by santhori), but it is now locked so bumping.

It seems to me like this functionality already exists in e.g. “History”, “Recent Plays” etc. Getting back to the top of the (potentially very long) queue is already possibly by double tapping the menu bar (in Plexamp; doesn’t seem necessary in the web player).

Maybe this is related to the design choice that apparently makes this challenging to implement, but I’m also curious why the “show (partial) queue” functionality is doubled in Plexamp - both scrolling down and clicking/tapping the “queue” hamburger bring you down to the (partial) queue. If the desired behavior of “swipe/scroll down” is to avoid a scrollbar (i.e. treat the large-artwork-display page and the “Up Next” list as a kind of single page with fixed dimensions) perhaps the hamburger could be used to call up the entire play queue?

Absolutely support a longer play queue! Not possible to take full use of making a good live mix with less than 50 entries scrollable. Pls increase the tiny visible list!

I’m glad to see that the idea of an expanded queue has been brought back to life. I tried to do so and was directed to this post. I have to agree that an expanded and actionable queue is in order. I really (read REALLY) like the idea of adding the “full queue view” functionality the hamburger menu. This would give the option of keeping the limited view for a glance ahead, or the full view for those of us who want to see well into the future. I also don’t really get the argument that the full queue could potentially be too large to navigate, when the history feature will seemingly take me back to the beginning of time, and all I have to do is exit and reenter the history view to get back to the most recently played. And the history view also has the full actionablity, i.e. play next, go to album/artist, add to playlist etc., that should be present on every song (both previous and upcoming) in the queue.

EVERYONE - please give this post some love, a thumbs up, a plus one, your vote or whatever it takes to make this happen. The current queue arrangement is one of a RARE FEW major issues that exists for plexamp and it seems like a solution is readily available

it’s actually insane that there’s no reasonable way to edit a long queue except for the next 25 songs, without either playing/skipping through the queue or starting the whole queue over from scratch.

It should always be possible to view the entire play queue in both directions! I don’t mind if it has to paginate but it’s straight up stupid how few tracks can even be seen in the queue, let alone moved around

related to this: it’s impossible to move/remove the first song in the queue because you can’t edit the “back to” part of the queue at all. The only recourse in this case is to start over from scratch on the queue. If you’re making use of repeat this can create a lot of unnecessary effort to accomplish what should otherwise be a very simple edit.

I can’t think of a single other piece of music playing software that I’ve ever used that had these same two problems. It seems in this aspect, PlexAmp is different only for the sake of being different, and it’s worse for it, not better.

Yes, it would be great if the queue could get an overhaul, but for whatever reason these posts never seem to get much traction. Maybe it’s more of a niche use case than we think?

it might be niche among all users, but we all use the play queue, it’s a core piece of the interface. It should work properly

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I’ve been trying to get the devs to realize how awkward it is to edit the play queue when so little of it is visible. It’s also really insane that the “up next” section of the queue is the least actionable part of all of it. Only two actions possible - rearrange (minimally) or remove - that’s it. There’s no “three dot” menu to allow for any of the usual options, as in the “back to” section. Seems like such a basic thing. Also seems that it would be easier (use more similar code) versus having the two sections act so differently. But what do I know?

I completely agree that allowing an expanded queue is necessary. I would also love to be able to edit the queue, for the same reasons listed in this post

Until I found this thread, I thought this was a bug.

Very bizarre UX to allow a user to continue to add items to a queue but not be able to see or interact with them :exploding_head:. If I add more than 2 albums to a queue, I cannot see what order anything is after the first 2 albums.

What’s worse - I see fewer items if I make the player vertically shorter. How does that make any sense at all!?!?

I’m guessing the queue functionality was designed to only support “smart” queues that automatically queue up new music for you and keep the queue at a set length.

While it makes sense for that scenario, I can’t think of any other music playing software I’ve ever used (going all the way back to early Winamp) where I can’t see all the items I’ve added to a queue.

Don’t you also think it’s bizarre that the queue is divided into “up next” and “back to”? And that the only actions possible in the “up next” section are to rearrange or delete tracks? None of the go to artist/album, add to playlist or anything. Form over function for sure

Right now, only 15 tracks are visible in my queue in plexamp, most other streaming services will show every track added. It would be great to show all the tracks to allow for easy reordering, deleting, etc.

I’ve been saying this for years!!

Would love to see this added.

I’ve merged your thread with an existing suggestion on the very same topic in order to avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.

Symphonium is showing the entire queue, why not Plexamp?

Excellent question! I would rather not have to pay another 6 bucks to see a full queue.

Thanks to all who have added comments in support of expanding the play queue.

PLEASE also make sure you have voted for this feature request. The votes do seem to make a difference.

The most recent update (v4.11.0) has added the context menu to the up next section (woohoo and hell yes!) which is a big improvement. Now we just need a more “normal” queue experience.

Absolutely wild this has been a request for over 3 years and it hasn’t been implemented. Such an odd design choice.

While this idea doesn’t have the most votes, there is still a lot of interest, so I’m bumping to keep this thread alive.
