Rip Blu-Rays to PMS - Ubuntu Linux 19.04

Okay, sorry in advance if this a duplicate question, but I have a stack of Blu-Rays that I would like to put on my PMS. I know I need a Blu-Ray drive (which I do not have yet), but I am not sure what kind to get. Do I need a specific type that can rip Blu-Rays or will any Blu-Ray drive work?

Any Blu-Ray drive will work. I suggest you get one that attaches to a Windows PC (via USB is fine) and then purchase the Blu-Ray option of DVDFabPassKey. It is a driver that runs all the time and when it senses a movie disk inserted will pull the encryption off and allow you to rip the movie off the disk with Handbrake. This is how I backup the DVD and Blu-Ray disks I own.

I’d suggest you check out makemkv, and the makemkv forums. The is a ton of advice on drives and best way to setup the software to get the best rips, backups, etc…

You didn’t mention uhd bluray, but if you’re interested in that you’ll need to get a specific drive and firmware to do that.

I dont have UHD or 4K blurays. I use MakeMKV for all of my movie ripping operations.

Get the LG WH16NS60 drive and use makemkv.

It’s not true that all blu-ray optical drives work that same: some manufacturers
restrict the read speed. LG does not (on this drive anyway).
