Roku App takes long time to start Live TV playback

Hi, im a long term user of TVH with plex. The channel order is based on the assigned channel numbers in TVH. So if you go to channels tab under config tab in tvh, you can manually assign the channel numbering. When plex updates EPG, it should reorganise into the TVH channel numbering. You can force a rescan of EPG in PMS browser.

As for delay caused to tuning channels I know a roku solution but it causes another problem. If you force direct play, channels look fine and tune really quickly. However, if you set to auto, it transcodes. However, if you set to original quality under auto direct play, it direct streams (if you have the setting enabled). Direct stream is still slow to tune though as well.
The problem I mention with direct play is that the setting is applied throughout if you change the main setting in Roku. You will find that you cannot fast forward or rewind shows / movies in your library with direct play. It just goes right back to the beginning if you try. Direct stream is fine though, but direct stream is still slow to tune. It drives me bonkers! Personally, if you want to switch the setting when watching live tv no problem. Trouble is, my wife would not like that!! As for issues with buffering, I would suggest tweaking the transcode options in PMS settings and the local video settings on roku plex app (if you are transcoding). This app is so nearly there… just wish it had fast channel tuning and direct play JUST on live tv… that would sort it.

Another note, since plex transcodes a lot of stuff, its good to have a powerful pc as the server. I noticed this fixed a lot of my buffering issues but then, I have 120mbit broadband as well. My PMS is on a ryzen 5 pc with a gts 1050, 8gb ram. Crazy I know! Of course, it doesnt need that much power but I dont really want to mess it up now its set because I am running 4 sattelite feeds through tvhproxy! A real beast to set up initially. Days of agonizing perseverance!

The PMS webapp shows the guide in the correct channel order (which is the same order it’s now in the XMLTV file, as I’ve added a pre-processing layer to do that). The Roku app (beta, at least) doesn’t care and will still show it based on channel ID, not channel number.

So yeah… I’ve found Emby to work better for TV, though its UI isn’t as polished (but that’s a matter of time, I think).

Cheers!

Ahhhhh, yes your right. I changed the channel number to do it, but that wasnt the fix as at the same time I actually went into the dvr setting in pms and changed the itv epg source from itvsth to the itvhds and that made itv appear as channel 3 instead of 11. So yes, I agree, it is the tv guide instruction. Sorry for misinformation :frowning: its the epg source. Nothing to do with channel numbering in tvh…
