Roku Client Plex Playback error unless forced direct play

Server Version#: 1.25.4.5468
Player Version#: 6.9.14

Certain Movies and TV shows throw an ‘Playback Error’ when initially loading at around 13% unless I change the video setting on the roku to force direct play. When force direct play is true the video and audio play back normally. This happens with local and remote roku users. Same videos play fine on the web client and on the android client.

This had been happening for roughly a month now, I thought the latest PMS update would fix it but it didn’t so I’m here looking for a solution.

Given it’s not capable of HEVC in hardware, it will fall back to software.

The Roku timing out at 13% tells us the i5 itself does not have enough horsepower to convert it in software.

Given you have this CPU, I would not use HEVC media. Sticking to H264 will be the best for you.
