That's true but the basic problem is that you can't share a device using multiple accounts easily (unless I'm missing something). So while I could set up a child's iPod touch with a different account (and I'd never use it so it wouldnt' be an issue), my Roku's can't switch easily between accounts.
I also just discovered one other troubling issue with plex pass and multiple accounts. My assumption (and the information is out there in the forums where others are complaining) that like other services (netflix comes to mind), I could have one premium plex pass account that included individual family accounts (really profiles) tied back to the primary account. It looks like I have to use the same plex pass account on every device to enable the sync feature.
Very true about the sync feature. As I've just pointed out in another thread, so many people seem to be crying out for multiuser a la Netflix but don't forget if plex used the same system then sharing sections only suitable for the children would become pointless as if they wished to watch something they haven't been given access to then they need only switch to your account which is what Netflix lets anyone do. All users have access to all profiles so for me that's a step backwards.
I'm not opposed to this functionality as long as it is not the default.
There are two equally important camps regarding devices:
One set uses devices as attached to users. A good example is a Roku in a kid's room. It would always be on the kid's user account (if multiuser and parental controls were implemented fully).
The other group has devices in more common areas and change users frequently.
Neither is wrong or right, but we do not need to exclude one usage case in spite of the other.
agregjones has hit the nail on the head. these two use cases need not be mutually exclusive. Currently, the Netflix model is based on his second bullet, and it is worthy to take note that Roku cannot even do that yet.
Yea, it's surprising netflix hasn't updated their channel yet. I figured they did, but I just realized I haven't even logged into netflix since I started using Plex a couple months ago :)
ps. The dog prefers adult content :) dirty boy.
That should turn heads at Roku, since they haven't added Netflix user-switching yet! :)
It's hard to tell if this is a Netflix/Roku issue ... Android devices are "roadmapped" as coming soon (generally guestimated to be before year's end), and Roku is left to speculation (generally guestimated to be 2014). But Plexville regulars might find the locking of this Roku forum thread a fun diversion...
A tip of the hat to ljunkie! With users from the Roku and Plex camps moaning about user-switching, his dog will soon be able to watch his porn without all those crappy PG-13 movies cluttering up the library listings!
