All of my Roku device transcode the live TV stream which causes it to be stuttery. If I edit the settings for the channel I’m watching to force original and MPEG2 it plays fine but the moment I change the channel I have to do that again. Can’t I default this from the server side?
Are these Roku devices on the same LAN (local network) with your Plex server, or remote? If remote then there is a different potential set of reasons, but for now I’m going to assume this is local.
I don’t know of any way to set what you want from the server side, but you can set it as the default for each Roku device. In the Roku Plex client go to video settings by clicking on your user name in the top left, then “Settings”, then “Video”. If you don’t already, set “Local Quality” to “Original”, set “Direct Play” to “Auto”, make sure “Allow Direct Stream” is checked, and also that “Allow MPEG2” is checked. That should default all streaming to not transcode if possible.
If that doesn’t work then while your Roku is playing Live TV, then in Plex Web go to the Dashboard and in the “Now Playing” section make sure “Show Details” (

They are on the same network however Plex is on Ethernet, Roku device WiFi. The settings for the client did the trick! Thanks!
