Roku Ultra fails to play prt2 of multi-part movie, if pt1 is .mp4 and pt2 is .mkv

Server Version#: 1.27.2.5929 Synology NAS 64bit
Player Version#: 7.0.13.7804-2fd4cda44-Plex

Roku app 7.0.13.7804-2fd4cda44-Plex on Roku Ultra model 4660RW, software version 11.0.0 build 4193-46

I have compared this problem to Google Chromecast +GoogleTV 2020, which does not have the problem, nor the Plex Player app on macOS.

This is specific to my Roku Ultra

If I have a two part movie, with part 1 being a .mp4 file and part 2 a .mkv file. The Roku fails to play part 2, after part 1 plays.

If the movie parts are both .mp4 or both .mkv, the problem does not occur.

The Chromecast +GoogleTV 2020 does not have a problem with this, nor does the Plex App for macOS

I have only recently noticed the Roku app failing for this, so I think the problem might have been introduced recently.

Before you say, “just remux the files to be the same type” I will explain that I am doing this purposefully, so that I can retain custom metadata in the .mp4 tags, while preserving the ability to display PGS subtitles in the .mkv file. (The PGS subtitles are not supported in the .mp4 file type). MKV does not support some of the tags that Plex reads from .mp4 files, such as “Long Description”, “Director”, “Screenwriters”, “Studio”, “Genre”, “Release Date”. I keep this metadata in .mp4, so I can preserve metadata, which will automatically be re-read, in case I need to rebuild my database. (If .mp4 supported PGS subtitles, I could just keep one combined .mp4 file, and there would not be a problem like this).

Also, I can’t just toss my Roku, because it supports some apps that the Chromecast doesn’t.

It’s doubtful many others will be encountering this Roku bug, but I hope it can be fixed.

Not supported. See the documentation regarding movies split across multiple files.

How are you handling subtitles in the MP4 file?

Drat! If only Plex would support some kind of easy to edit and save with the movie, metadata file (.ini?) that would be loaded, in the case of a Database rebuild, I won’t have to keep looking for work-arounds to storing metadata

I can’t spend hours and hours customizing the tags in the database, only to have all that work disappear the moment the database becomes corrupted and must be rebuilt from scratch. I need a simple file to save my Title, Long Descriptions, Directory, Screenwriter, Studio and Genre notes. (artwork in the same folder with the movie, is already recognized).
