Roku Ultra High Bitrate Issue - not Auto defaulting to Direct Play

Server Version#:1.28.2.6106
Player Version#:7.13.10.8926-bf90f456c-Plex
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

High bitrate media file will not play. Error = Direct play is disabled

Test case
Media file #1 Good => bitrate 3 Mbps, Video H.264, Audio AC3 5.1
Media file #2: Fail => bitrate 6.2 Mbps, Video AV1, Audio AC3 5.1

Local media server on same network
Server is connected to router via WiFi 5Ghz
Both TV and Roku Ultra connected by ethernet on same network as the server.

TCL TV Plex app plays both files fine
Roku Ultra fails on high bitrate media (file #2) yet plays fine on lower bitrate media (file #1)

Allow direct stream is selected in Roku ultra plex app settings.

When Direct play is set to “Auto” => media file #2 fails to play with error = Direct play is disabled

When Direct play is set to “force” => media file #2 plays successfully ???

Additional information:
On android phone. High bitrate file will not play when connected to cell tower, however will play when connected via wifi to home network

Sounds like you have the Allow Direct Play option disabled.

Unless i am misunderstanding something…

I mentioned Direct play is set to “Auto” already.

Sorry about that - I thought there was a global setting to disable Direct Play, but when playing media you can override that. It has been a little while since I have used my Rokus and misremembered.

I see your second file is AV1, and Roku itself doesn’t detect AV1 as Direct Play capable but does play it back when forced to. There is at least one post on the Roku forum about this.

Cool and thank you. You probably nailed it for me. The AVI encoding. I’ll go research further. Thank you very much!
