Roku versions that works with Plex Media Server

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Hello,

I am trying to purchase a roku Device for the Plex Media server. I already have an established account for plex and have used it with other devices how ever I am not familar with Roku and i noticed on the compatability list that * **Roku Ultra (models 4640)** is listed. How ever the new version they have released is Version 4800R and apparently according to some posts I read online, people are having numerous issues with with transcoding and or video related problems with this model of Roku with Plex. Is this a known problem specifically with this version Or is version 4800R compatable with plex Media currently or have they ran a firmware update to fix the problems. I am little skeptical of purchasing this version because I don’t see it listed on the compatability list.

My suggestion is that unless you are totally set on getting into the Roku universe, get a Chromecast with Google TV or an Nvidia Shield. I think your experience will be much better with both of those devices. At this point I think it is fair to say that the Chromecast with Google TV is probably the best low cost client out there as long as your aren’t going to try to throw huge bitrate 4K files at it. The Nvidia Shield Pro (not the tube one, the tube is garbage) is the best client period. It will support basically any codec you can throw at it and it will chew through absolutely massive files with no issue.
