Hey was just reading this blog and wanted to know if something like this could ever be incorporated in plex.
I would love to have this feature as well. Maybe one day....
If I'm not wrong, this can be relatively easily done today via the plugin framework. All you really need to do is populate a list with links to the rom files on your mac (that are associated with an emulator), and maybe display the artwork in the process.
I haven't looked into the framework lately, but I do believe it supports local files. Although I don't know if it has permission to run them.
Do a quick search on these forums and you will some efforts towards this. Last time I checked, though, people put the projects on hold to wait for Plex 9 as that will make this a lot easier and robust.
