Hi, I’ve just installed Plex latest version on an Ubuntu 22.04.1 Linux. My intention is to use it mainly as a gallery for photos and videos of me and my family. All these media are taken directly from our smartphones (iPhone 13) or received via social media.
I observed the following:
-
When I take a video with my smartphone in “landscape” position, sometimes the video appears upside-down, or rotated 90 degrees. To be precise, the video itself plays correctly if direct streaming is used, but the automatically generated thumbnail and transcoded variants of the same video are rotated.
-
Videos taken from the iPhone 13 with Full-HD, 60 Hz, HDR setting and played with the Plex client app on Windows are unplayable with continuous “buffering” stutters (I see them in the Plex server dashboard). The very same videos play flawlessly through the Plex web interface and also if the original video file is played locally on the client through the network (the folder containing photos & videos is shared locally as a SMB folder), so definitely it’s not a network performance problem.
To mitigate issue n. 2 I temporarly changed the camera settings of the iPhone to use “more compatible” formats instead of “high efficiency” and disabled HDR video recording. But I would like to be able to store and play all the photos and videos created with the smartphone.
Best regards,
Filippo
