Route To Plex Server

Server Version#: Version 1.40.4.8679
Player Version#: Version 4.133.0
Hello I have a plex server sititng in my Pfsense DMZ. The ip address subnet is /29. The ISP is Xfinity.,
I can watch movies throughly on the inside oif the house. But Remtoe sometimes it works and sometimes not… I am trying to figure out the route the network (pfsense) is using to serve the remote connections.
Plex is on an UnRaid Server platform.
Does anyone know how to find out what routes are being used. because even when it works plex say Remote Access :not working. So what is going on.

Pfsense and Plex are very easy.
Done this way, it will never fail

I also have Comcast, with XB8 modem in bridge mode, Pfsense is the edge device/router

If I may suggest?

  1. Put PMS back on your main LAN segment and remove the DMZ
    – The DMZ is where the trouble is … you’ve caused pfsense to force virtual network (internal) routing which isn’t necessary and caused plex to see different subnets – broadcast packets for discovery do not cross subnet boudaries)

  2. Create a NAT port forwarding rule from WAN Address to LAN IP of the server
(Here is how I do mine)
    – From WAN
    – To LAN of PMS
    – External port (I use 32400 here for demonstration) to port 32400 of the server
    – You can add a ‘PlexRemoteAccess’ alias to restrict the IPs which are allowed to see your Plex server port. ( I could give you my address & port but without being on this list, you’ll never know it’s there )

  1. When you create this and use your own external port, make certain to tell PMS (Remote Access settings - Manually mapped port) which external port to use

  2. After saving this, we now add the plex.direct DNS rebinding rule.
This allows Plex.tv, Remote players, and all local players to use the plex.direct domain to find and access your server (as intended)
(Services - DNS Resolver - Custom options:)

server:
private-domain: "plex.direct"
so-reuseport: no
