Same Movie two or more files with different Audio Tack

Some movies will have a Commentary Audio only while another file of the same movie shall have the movie audio. When these files are scanned one file is showing as unmatched. When we match the unmatched movie file, it is overwriting the same movie already in the Library with different audio,

Is it possible to scan and match two movie files (one with audio commentary and the other with main audio) without overwriting each other?

If there is a single movie with two or more audio files built therein, there is no problem as I can select the audio I wish to from the Audio option of the movie.

Plex Admins may kindly provide the option to scan two or movie files of the same movie. This option is available in Emby.

I shall be thankful if the above option is provided like in Emby.

The common handling for a scenario where you have multiple audio tracks for the same video is to have those in 1 file. Media files support tagging of those audio streams — this applies mostly to the audio track‘s language but can also be used to give each track a title (e.g. „Director’s Commentary“).

If a file has multiple audio tracks, Plex will give you an option to pick which one to use.

If you need to keep the different audio versions as separate files and want them to show as individual items in Plex: organize them in their own folders, if Plex keeps merging them you should then have an option to split the item (from the movie context menu)

OK Thank you. I do not know that there is an unmerge option in Plex. I shall again try with the two files of the same movie and try unmerging. Thank you for your response.

In Emby, we can scan the same movie and each time it saves as different and does not merge the files.

An alternative would be adding the commentary version as Extras, but you won’t be able to resume the playback

That appears to be dependent on the client. Resuming longer local extras works perfectly fine here on Android mobile and Plex Web-based clients.
(on Android I don’t see the incomplete progress bar, but am asked upon playback whether to continue or start over)

It doesn’t appear to work on “10-foot UI” clients like Plex HTPC and Plex for Smart TV.

Good to know. Thanks

There are also no Video Preview Thumbs generated for “Extras”.
