Player Version#: 4.5.1
This is a recorded TV file, standard MPEG2 as far as I can tell, use to play but no longer does, seems to transcode, ripped DVDs don’t transcode yet I’m sure the formats are the same, any ideas ? All standard defination TV files seem to be in this format, HD channels are H264 which don’t transcode.
Just a little update, this file plays fine from a memory stick or hdd, so im guessing this means the plex client or server is doing something wrong, I seem to remember AVC files once did this and the devs did something to fix.
The file is using mpegts & mp2. mp2 is not a direct-playable codec in our profiles. Because of that, it gets transcoded and it will attempt to direct stream, but mpegts isn’t a direct stream target, so it transcodes that to h264.
I’ve added mp2 as an audio codec for direct play to the profile and it seems to work. For now, it’ll need to be transcoded, or if you have a tuner that supports it, try transcoding on that hardware.
Thanks for responding slumpy, it direct plays fine from a memory stick and it use to in versions past, plus it’s a freeview stream which all TVs need to play. I don’t understand why you say it needs to be transcoded ? You can’t fix this ?
It shouldn’t have worked in the past unless the channel used a different audio codec before, because the profile wouldn’t have allowed it. In any case, I’ve added the fix, but it won’t be available until a later release (not the next one).
Not sure what version it use to, but it did. I use a homerun and Plex just takes the TS stream straight to the hard drive, standard def uses mpeg2 video and mp2 audio, the hd uses h264 with aac audio, glad you have a fix.
Where does the fix for this reside ? Client or server.
