My new Samsung QE75Q60BAUXXU supports Dolby Atmos and i have a Dolby Atmos sound bar. But it wont pass it through nor is it a option in the settings on the Plex app. Is there going to be an updaye for this? Thank you.
Soundbar make/model?
How is the soundbar connected to the TV - HDMI, optical, etc?
There are two types of Atmos for home use: Dolby Digital Plus + Atmos, the type used by streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon, and Apple; and TrueHD + Atmos, the type found on Blu-ray discs.
The Plex app on the TV should passthrough Dolby Digital Plus + Atmos to the soundbar if connected via HDMI-ARC or HDMI-eARC.
The Plex app on the TV will not passthrough TrueHD + Atmos. It will be transcoded by Plex Media Server to a supported format. The Atmos information will be lost in the process.
No known TV supports passthrough of TrueHD audio from TV based apps. It is a TV manufacturer restriction and applies to all apps, not just Plex.
If you want TrueHD + Atmos audio, acquire a Nvidia Shield Pro. The Shield will passthrough both TrueHD and DTS audio formats.
Note that Samsung TVs block passthrough of DTS audio formats. If possible, connect the Shield to an HDMI input on the soundbar.
