I just tried clearing the subnet details from those 2 locations to let Plex determine automatically if it is local/remote and no change in behavior.
So now that I know what to look for I can still see those snippets you pointed out in fresh logs, thanks. @FordGuy61
I also see entries for my Public IP as well complaining that it is an invalid domain and is going to be treated as non-local, or Remote. Since I have not specified that external IP as “allowed” that makes sense.

Fresh Debug logs for perusal.
I forgot to mention, after about 3 minutes of attempted playback it eventually drops off of the Dashboard.
Thanks for the new logs.
Playback starts:
Jun 15, 2022 11:52:05.766 [14364] INFO - [Plex for Samsung] [sknudskov:stssaurvw94mhlietkv5cdim] [PlaybackSessionController] playback state changed to: playing
Thirty five seconds later there’s an unknown error:
Jun 15, 2022 11:52:40.952 [14364] ERROR - [Plex for Samsung] [sknudskov:stssaurvw94mhlietkv5cdim] [Unhandled Rejection]: Unknown error

And that is the last log entry from the Samsung.
Given that the audio is transcoding, Plex is already in a direct stream / remux situation. The server should send only the video and transcoded audio to the client. The thirty stream limit would seemingly not apply, since Plex is already remuxing things down to just two streams.
In the Samsung Plex app settings, I believe you can disable both Direct Stream and Direct Play (the options exist on my LG). That should force Plex to transcode the video.
That might provide some additional diagnostic info on what is happening.
Other than that, I’m not sure what else to check.
I have tried that and it will cause all these movies to fail immediately. I have not captured logs with this disabled so I’ll do so now and lets see what it tells us.
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-06-15_13-37-14.zip (5.2 MB)
Attempted 3 play backs to ensure we captured something.
Plex on the TV immediately spits out an unknown playback error.
Of note and I’m not sure I’ve mentioned this but every other Movie plays flawlessly as do TV shows if they are under 30 subtitles (Streams).
I noticed this:
Jun 15, 2022 13:36:07.321 [12980] DEBUG - [Transcode] MDE: Cannot direct stream audio stream due to profile or setting limitations
Jun 15, 2022 13:36:07.321 [12980] DEBUG - [Transcode] MDE: The Amazing Spider-Man (2012): selected media 0 / 103822

Direct Play=3000,App cannot direct play this item. Direct play is disabled. Transcode=4002,Not enough CPU for conversion of this item.)
Not Enough CPU? lol it better not be complaining about this:

The 30 Stream limit does not happen very often and is a fairly easy fix to with MKVToolkit.
So, was bored this evening so I started poking around. Reading this and that.
Then tried the option to Optimize the sample movie with Plex.
Low an behold it now plays fine.
When I optimized the movie I left it to original and that’s it.
Now the play back details say it is 6.9Mbps 1080p vs 11.6Mbps 1080p…
But it is working…And I noticed it is not transcoding anything. The Optimize process pre-transcoded the audio into AAC 5.1 format it seems? I’ve not messed around with Optimizing before.

Does this mean that the Optimization may have fix some corruption perhaps in the original file?
I’ll try optimizing another problem DTS movie and see if that helps.
I am at a loss why this now may be required to “fix” these movies with DTS Audio that have worked for years… That’s a lot of work for something that now seems to be broken within Plex…
My network is gig through and through, though the TV only supports 10/100 wired… as do most…
Optimizing a second DTS file and it played fine as the DTS was converted…
So what is causing Plex to not want to transcode while watching these movies that used to play just fine? I think that’s the real question. Or maybe more accurately, as you noticed, it is transcoding, and I can even see it start to on the Dashboard, but never presents anything to the TV. The latter is the problem area I think.
Over the weekend a friend of ours had some problems playing back any content from our plex. They don’t have the same internet speed as we do but I was able to fix it for them. This new feature of auto detecting and scaling the show to a more appropriate bit rate may be contributing to my problems or maybe they are tied together.
bear with me for a sec…
My problem locally on my network right now is that Plex will not transcode DTS to another Audio format like it has for the past several years live, when I try to watch a show.
I can Optimize a video no problem which pre-transcodes the audio from DTS to AAC.
If I go onto Cellular or fake out a mobile device to a lower speed, like from 1080p 10Mbps down to say 480p 2Mbps. Simulating a slower connection and requesting a smaller file. Plex will not transcode it down to the lesser format. Complaining about not enough CPU…
If I force the plex client to the maximum setting, it will play over the slower connection fine. Without the need for Transcoding.
So is this new feature of autoscaling actually broken? or maybe just on my server?
I understand the goal of these new settings or at least the theory behind it.
Still looking for a solution to get live transcode working again…
Anyone have any further ideas how to get Plex Media Server to transcode on the fly again? Or has this been disabled in the code?
