Samsung Smart TV Plex app vs Roku

Hello,

I just started using Plex on my 2015 Samsung 4K HDR Smart TV. Also got the 4K Roku Premiere as a gift. Is there any benefit of switching to the Roku Plex apart from the better user interface? The only purpose of the Roku would be to run Plex, so trying to figure out if there’s any major benefit with the Roku?

Thanks

Depends on your server hardware. But overall yes!

You can check your tv’s capacity of direct playing video formats as my old samsung tv was limited to some video/audio formats. this was the primary reason i went with the 4k roku ultra. it direct plays just about anything i throw at it including 4k content. been very happy with it. I tend to convert to MP4 when i have problematic formats with handbrake. (note: i wanted all my devices off wifi, the roku premiere did not have the rj45 connector for lan, so i went with the ultra. my router was too far away from my devices for a seamless wifi experience.)

And, I now just have one remote for tv/roku/soundbar and all my tv streaming apps run on the roku perfectly. (yourtube tv, netflix, amazon, plex, etc.

I run two PMS, synology and windows 10. my windows machine runs my 4K content, my NAS runs everything else, and with the Roku, it saves my NAS/windows cpu from burning down the house. LOL, I’m able to get about 4 streams off my NAS this way with no transcoding internally and over state lines. With transcoding it would only handle about 2 before it starts buffering. (synology DS1515+)
