To keep my libraries family-friendly, I tag my media and restrict certain tags for certain users. Some of the tags I use are for nudity (light nudity is usually fine but no genitals), sex (explicit or simply too many/drawn-out sex scenes), blood (in moderation it’s okay), gore (e.g. organs), controversial topics (e.g. rape, incest, homosexuality), trash (movies that I know are unwatchably bad). You get the idea.
Now, I’m only human and I make mistakes. I sometimes forget some tags, and I haven’t seen every movie in my library, so some movies are left untagged.
IIRC Plex host their own database (I think it’s hosted on watch.plex.tv) which is basically a mix of other databases, including IMDb. IMDb offers keywords and a Parental Guide, which rates topics like nudity and violence on a scale from None to Severe).
Unfortunately, Plex doesn’t utilize this data yet but it would be a great addition. You can already restrict media based on age ratings but that’s not precise enough. Taking the Parental Guide into consideration and additionally making use of keywords to further restrict certain topics would make maintaing a family-friendly library much more manageable.
The first link seems to be the most similar to my suggestion but damn, it’s really disheartening seeing that thread getting ignored for almost 5 years.
The fourth link talks about different “keywords”, I’m specifically talking about the existing IMDb keywords while they’re talking about something akin to Netflix subgenres (or atleast I’m not aware of any source where you could scrape such data).
The fifth link is kind of interesting but TMDb keywords are lacking when compared to IMDb keywords.
I’m conflicted wheter I should close this or not.
